Discount offer for Kennywood Park's Happy Hauntings

This past weekend our family headed to Kennywood Park for their family-friendly Happy Hauntings! If my kids can combine two of their favorites - candy + rides - they call that a pretty great day. 😊
Near the entrance, you will see a sign for the trick-or-treat trail where your kids will be given a bag and follow the trail for goodies. There are some skeletons, but overall, it is not scary. (Although, your husband may or may not be jumping out from behind bushes to try to scare them. 😉)

Not all rides were open, but my kids were excited to see the Jackrabbit, Paratrooper, Merry-Go-Round, Auto Racers + the Turtle Coaster were all operating. Kiddieland is also open as well as the brand new Thomas Town! Thomas Town was pretty cool, my kids really love this bigger version of the Mousetrap.

This was the first time we had been there that the new indoor play area in Thomas Town was open. How great is this?! An indoor, air conditioned play area on a hot day?  I think that's a big YES from parents and kids!

Happy Hauntings will be running Saturdays and Sundays in October from noon - 4:00pm. (Admission is free for kids 3 & under.)

DEAL ALERT! 👉 We have a deal to save you $3 per ticket......purchase your discount tickets here.

Add this tradition to your family memories for October and......Happy Hauntings!

EQT Bridge Theater Series + ticket giveaways

My kids have edged past the toddler stage (yay!) and are starting to look for kid friendly shows that are still entertaining and fun, but don't feel geared towards younger kids. So our family is very excited about the EQT Bridge Theater Series this year! The EQT Bridge Theater Series tells extremely interesting stories, but teaches some cultural and historical themes as well.

The EQT Bridge Theater Series is for children ages 7+ and their families. These shows will amaze, excite, and leave you wondering. Get ready for theater that moves, shakes, and shatters expectations! Shows take place in Downtown Pittsburgh’s Cultural District in the Byham Theater, Trust Arts Education Center, and one mystery location. The Bridge Theater Series will continue and expand upon the tradition that families begin when their children attend Children’s Theater Series shows at an early age.
Another great aspect of this series is that most shows are under an hour and tickets start at just $12!
Be sure you have your settings to our facebook page set to follow as we'll be giving away tickets for each show!

2018-2019 Season

Trust Arts Education Center
A suspenseful tale as old as time itself. Even if you know the story, this version is a new experience that is told as the audience reclines in hammocks under a radiant sky. Androcles is a slave who must escape after being accused of theft. He flees to into the burning sun of the Libyan desert. So many creatures and sounds live in the desert. And in the middle of the pitch-dark night, a roar sounds so loudly that Androcles’ heart freezes. Experience this tale of danger, deception and kindness in this unexpected and immersive story.

Androcles and The Lion

Moon Shot
Byham Theater
Biggest Story, Smallest Stage. To recreate the story of America’s Apollo 11 lunar landing, seven actors squeeze onto a 21-square feet stage nearly as tight as NASA’s original Mercury capsules. Using only their bodies and their voices, this astounding play brings to life one of the most daring times in the history of human exploration: the Space Race. From the Cold War to Sputnik, from Yuri Gagarin to Neil Armstrong, this action-packed show brings the company’s tongue-in-cheek humor to a whole new atmosphere—one where the rules of gravity no longer apply.

Leo
Byham Theater
What would happen if the law of gravity were to suddenly change?
LEO is a mind-bending, funny, surreal, and surprisingly touching theater work that challenges the senses and tests perceptions of reality through the clever interplay of live performance and high tech video projection.
Universally appealing to adults and children, LEO leaves audience members wondering which way is up and which way is down.

Murikamification

Step into the daydream that unfolds before your eyes. Using the magical, surrealistic stories of Haruki Murakami as a source of inspiration, Kaiel creates an intensely physical and absurd performance trail. In each new city, the work is adapted to the local context. In each version of ‘Murikamification’, a diverse and curious audience is overwhelmed by surprising scenery in the streets of their own city. Follow the action on this moving theater piece throughout Pittsburgh’s own Cultural District.

Mark your calendars, purchase tickets + share with your friends! These shows are going to be fantastic fun! Go here to purchase tickets.

Kennywood Adventures + Discount

We've hit a big milestone in our family.....that's right, our kids are out growing Kiddieland! 😅 I love that my kids are getting older and bigger and ready for new adventures. So this year, Kennywood was a different experience as we didn't even enter the kids area. It's a little bit tricky, because they're not all tall enough or ready for some of the big rides, but we found a balance with the "medium-sized" ones. :)

As my kids get older and into faster rides, I'm also getting older and into much slower rides. 😰 This was my one and only time on this one. 😂

Um, no thank you. But this ride does provide the best photos!!

My kids loved, loved this ride!!

This is a classic!

The brand new Thomas the Train exhibit wasn't open for us, but I'm hearing it's going to be great! (Opening at the end of July.) We've got a discount on tickets for anyone that is looking for a family fun day this summer. Go here to purchase!

My family received tickets in exchange for a review. All opinions remain my own as I don't promote venues that my family doesn't love!

Sandcastle: Save $9.99 per ticket!

Sandcastle is another local favorite for us Pittsburghers! Whether you're planning a stay-cation, traveling through from out of town or simply looking for ways to cool off during the summer heat, Sandcastle is one of our favorite water destinations in the city. The location is amazing as it has been transformed from an old railroad yard, directly overlooking the Monongahela River. It's hard to believe you're in the middle of the city!

Wet Willies is one of my kids favorite places. They love controlling 20,000 gallons of splashing fun, pulling ropes, twisting valves, and turning handles that unleash geysers, fountains and sprays!

There are two kids specific kids areas with shallow pools, including Wet Willie's Waterworks and the Tad Pool.

But there are at least 4 areas with zero depth entry and life jackets are included for the wave pool. Man, my kids love the wave pool!

Sandcastle offers 15 attractions, the Mon Tsunami Wave Pool, scenic Mushroom Pool, the relaxing lazy river, and two children’s area – all located on a boardwalk that is sure to make you feel like you are on vacation. For thrill seekers to mild riders to those that just want to relax, there is something for everyone!

When you're ready just to hang out for a while, this unofficial "beach" offers some down time from the water fun!

Tickets are only $23 when you purchase this special offer online! Children 3 and under are FREE. Junior (48" and under) and seniors (age 55+) are $22.99 at the gate (plus tax).

Kennywood: Discounted Tickets For You!

It's that time of year to begin planning out your summer bucket list! If you're in Pittsburgh, no doubt the iconic Kennywood is on your list (or it should be!).

Kennywood is America’s Finest Traditional Amusement Park. The Pittsburgh-area park offers a unique mix of classic rides and modern thrills, including six roller coasters, a 14-ride Kid-dieland, and several attractions that cannot be found anywhere else. Founded as a trolley park in 1898 and named a National Historic Landmark in 1987, Kennywood continues to provide unforgettable fun for all ages. Enjoy everything from tasty funnel cakes, Deep Fried Oreos to Kennywood’s world-famous Potato Patch fries!

This is one of my all-time favorite captures of my kiddos - serious thrill right there!

There are 14 Kiddieland rides and we have rarely had much of a line wait. Especially if you go on a weekday, chances are your kids will be able to get on rides very quickly. And all the parents said "HALLELUJAH!" :) :)

Why do they love "the whip" (my term!) so much? I'll never know, but it's one of their favorite rides!

NEW FOR 2016!
Over the last 80 years, few attractions have symbolized Kennywood quite like Noah’s Ark. Once a staple of amusement parks the world over, the only operational Noah’s Ark attraction remaining resides at Kennywood. Fresh off a major off season overhaul, guests will encounter dozens of animals, plus the twists, turns, jumps and jolts that classic funhouses are famous for!

It's fun to watch my kids get braver as they get older! This turtle roller coaster is the perfect stepping stone from Kiddieland to bigger rides.

While they're not ready for these yet, there are certainly plenty of thrills for older kids/adults as well!
