Shows at 4pm & 8pm
GO Roadshow is “a musical street spectacle on wheels”. This show-making machine is a 34-foot long monster truck retrofitted with truck-horn calliope, a wall made of rotors and a spinning grand piano that is played while it wheels around! Each show starts with a shameless parade of peacock trumpets, spinning drums, accordion, sousaphone and glockenspiel. GO is a music and art-mobile – a rolling ruckus that opens up like a mechanical blossom to make the street a vibrant place where people can share a community of the imagination. Night shows include video projected on a rotor screen made of movement itself, and on a blimp that has a mouth that opens in a call to celebration. We are drawing from the great American history of traveling circuses, Shriner and holiday parades, medicine shows, and used car lot events that vitalized the heartland of this country.
Presented by Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and sponsored by EQT Corporation.

Adults only: Carnegie Science Center

I recently attended the inaugural 21+ night at CSC.
That's right - no kids allowed!
Have you ever considered the thought of being at the Science Center and actually reading about an exhibit instead of worrying if you have enough food & drink for the duration of your stay, or know where every bathroom is, and spending time somewhere other than the ball factory? :)
Than this is the night for you!
Yes, we did spend time in the train room. It was rather....peaceful. :)
What? You thought the 4th floor would be empty?
Nope, there were plenty of adults trying their hand at:
  • Constructing working electrical circuits
  • Playing the laser harp and the PVC pipe organ
  • Engineering dams, locks, channels and flood plains to control the flow of a river
  •  And don't forget about splashing at the water table!
Yep, we all need some kid's fun sometimes.
Check their calendar for more upcoming 21+ nights!
I attended with our university student from China who is staying with us for the month of August. She gave it a thumb's up! We especially enjoyed a short show at the Buhl Digital Planetarium!

Broadway Across America: The Addams Family

Last night I had the delightful experience of seeing The Addams Family at the Benedum Center, a co-presentation between Pittsburgh CLO and PNC Broadway Across America – Pittsburgh.
I never really watched the TV show, so besides knowing some of the characters and theme song (of course!), I wasn't sure what it would be like.
    Hilarious.
    Hilarious.
    Hilarious.
Gomez Adams, played by Douglas Sills, does an absolutely incredible job and is definitely the star of the show.
    Laugh Out Loud funny.
And to the cast's credit, they even threw a "yinz" in there. :)
The premise: Wednesday Addams has fallen in love. It's time for the parents to meet. The young couple are both begging their parents to be "normal" for this first dinner meeting.
Because it turns out, the boyfriend's parents have a few skeletons in their closet too.
It's really a story that could play out anywhere, right?
Throughout the show, there is such a strong theme of how important it is to be utterly & completely truthful in your marriage.
Showing now through August 12th - get your tickets here.
Balcony seats as low as $35 a ticket!
Buy the way, did you know the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is always the best place to find tickets for events in Pittsburgh? The same tickets through another venue were over $50!

Free Guitar Lessons - Sundays in August

As part of Carnegie Science Center's Guitar Exhibit, Empire Music will offer small-group, 45-minute sessions on the Sonic Acoustic Stage.
    {Free with General Admission.}
Try out a guitar or just listen in on some informal instruction. At the end of the lesson time, each person may have the chance to play with the instructor and a drummer! Call to reserve your spot: 412.237.3400, then  press 7.
Check out all the special events as part of the Guitar Exhibit here.
As a former elementary music teacher and current piano teacher, I love seeing kids learning about music and getting instruments into their hands!
