Disney on Ice Dream Big at PPG Paints Arena

Disney on Ice is coming back to PPG Paints Arena! If you attended the show in December, this one will be slightly different. And everyone's favorite FROZEN characters will be a part of this show!

Disney Princesses Create Their Own Happily Ever After when
Disney On Ice presents Dream Big comes to your hometown!

Tinker Bell Whisks Audiences through Inspirational Disney Tales
and the Princesses that Made them Possible

PPG Paints Arena
February 23 - 26, 2017

Believing is just the beginning when dreamers around the country witness the empowering tales of Disney’s most courageous leading ladies told through artistic skating and acrobatics in Disney On Ice presents Dream Big. Audiences are invited to join eight Disney Princesses – Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tiana, Jasmine, Aurora and Snow White – as they embark on incredible adventures, determined to make their dreams come true. In addition, experience the sisterly love that has captivated millions as Disney’s Frozen is brought to life on the icy stage.

Enter a world where adventure awaits and courage leads the way, as Tinker Bell guides guests to a place where imaginations soar and anything can happen. Make a splash with the fearless dreamer Ariel as she yearns to explore life above the waves. Watch Rapunzel, Cinderella and Belle as they learn about the power to make their own magic. Travel to the wintry world of Arendelle with sisters Anna and Elsa and the hilarious Olaf from Disney’s Frozen as they learn that true love is the greatest magic of all. Be there to discover a whole new world with the daring Jasmine, and join Snow White, Aurora and Tiana as they remind you that strength and kindness go hand-in-hand.

“Before dreaming up this show, we reflected on what makes Disney’s leading ladies so unique,” said Producer Kenneth Feld. “Having three daughters, it didn’t take long to realize that every princess had one thing in common: each one had a dream and the determination to make it a reality. We wanted to share that inspirational message with our audiences by celebrating the stories of these courageous young women and the friends that helped them along the way.”

Guests will also enjoy a special second act including royal sisters Anna and Elsa from the number one animated feature film of all time, Disney’s Frozen. Audiences will enter the land of Arendelle and journey up the North Mountain with Olaf and rugged mountain-man Kristoff as they help the sisters discover true love can conquer all. “Being able to include these new and exciting characters from the Academy Award®-winning tale, Frozen, keeps our shows current and ever evolving,” adds Feld.
Adapting the inspirational moments to the ice presented an interesting challenge to the creative team. To cause audiences to re-experience the emotions evoked by the films would
take glittering sets, dramatic lighting, breathtaking choreography and a few surprises.

Questburgh: Escape Room for Kids

You may have heard about the "Escape Rooms" that are popping up all around our country. These are great options for date nights, mom's night out or fun with friends!

Real-life Room Escape games are a type of live game where players are locked in a room with other participants and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within 60 minutes

We were recently invited to participate in the Pirates adventure game at Questburgh. This is the only Escape Room in our region that younger kids can participate in! (One other Escape Room in our area starts at age 7.)  It's a great family adventure where parents might do most of the mystery solving for younger kids, but everyone can enjoy the thrill of helping to solve puzzles and hunting for lost treasures as well!  It is designed to start around 5 years old, but they also welcome younger kids as long as they are with their parents.

I decided to take my 7 year old son and some of his friends and they had a fantastic time finding the clues!

It was a little unclear going into the room what exactly we should be looking for or doing, so the boys just started rattling, shaking and searching and we eventually started to figure it out! There is also help via camera if you are stuck. That was a HUGE help. 😃

Although I thought it was one room to escape, there ended up being a series of 3 rooms!

I was the only adult that went in with the kids and the other parents waited in the lobby. We would love to see a TV on the wall where you can see the progress of what is happening in the rooms! This would also be great for older kids who might go in without adults and the parents would like to follow along in their hunt.

We did it!! With one minute to spare, they opened the treasure box. They were very excited! This last room has a sand floor, so be aware for anyone with dust allergens or sensitivities, it was a little dusty in there. :)

This was a really fun activity and families would have a great time doing it together. It also makes an exciting birthday party or fun venue to do with grandparents and grandkids! And if you prefer to do an adult event, you can also check out their Mafia room

I would love to see them offer a family rate, especially for families with younger kids.
Currently $28/adult and $19/child.

They are located in the Southside, just off of Carson Street. Free parking is available.

Go here to see all the information for their games! Or follow all their latest news through Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Thanks, Questburgh, for providing this fun adventure for families in our city!

Splash Lagoon: Ticket Giveaway

We were thrilled to be invited back to one of our favorite family venues - Splash LagoonSplash Lagoon is a perfect year round family getaway that is located in Erie, PA, around 2 hours from Pittsburgh. It is certainly listed as one of America's Top Indoor Water Parks for a reason! Splash Lagoon allows guests to swirl down nine water slides, climb the Tree Tops Ropes Course, relax in the Lazy River, ride the waves in the largest wave pool in the Eastern United States, spin in the new Aqua Tumbler and play in the Treasure Island Arcade & Lazer Tag! As a person who HATES cold water, I love that the water temps are a balmy 84 degrees. 😃

This zero depth entry pool with small slides is perfect for babies and toddlers!

This is one of my kids favorites slides that they can do on their own!

The turquoise slide was probably their favorite of all. We could ride down together in a double tube and it was so much fun!

Be sure to bring another adult with you so you can swap turns in the adult only hot tub. :) There are also some family hot tubs which have a little lower temps.

My kids did this one over and over again! I'm not sure why they loved it so much, but it wore them out, so no complaints here. 😃

If your kids are up for a little bigger adventure, this ride is a winner!

Be sure to check their winter schedule before you plan your travel time. They are closed most Tuesdays and Wednesdays through the winter and daily hours may vary.

Your kids might even have time to kick back and read the newspaper. 😉

The arcade games have a separate pricing scale. How fun is this giant Connect Four game?! (Laser Tag and the Ropes Course are also a separate admission fee.)

We stayed in the Residence Inn by Marriott, which is one of 3 hotels directly connected to Splash Lagoon. We couldn't have been happier with a wonderful 2 bedroom suite (a bit of a necessity with 4 kids!) that also boasted a complete kitchen and 2 full bathrooms with huge jacuzzi tubs.

This sitting room with a fireplace was a perfect connecting space! The sofa is also a pull-out bed for additional sleeping options.

The hotel had a great complimentary hot breakfast with options for everyone! Eggs, sausage, waffles, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee.....

Depending on the weather when you go, a stop at the beautiful Presque Isle State Park is an added bonus!

GIVEAWAY:

Splash Lagoon has been kind enough to giveaway a family 4 pack of tickets to their indoor waterpark! (Please note: this does not include hotel accommodations.) You can choose to book a hotel if you wish, or it is also an easy day trip from Pittsburgh.
By entering the giveaway, you are opting into their email club. The email club is a fantastic resource to be notified of flash sales and the best deals for tickets! You can opt out at any time.
