Event: Kindergarten….Here I Come!
Location: Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh,
Date: Saturday August 13, 2011
Time: 9am-1pm
Cost: Free for all children entering kindergarten and one parent

Kindergarten…Here I Come! is an event designed to help children and parents facilitate a healthy transition to kindergarten and strengthen the idea that community support is essential in healthy child development. This helps to set the stage for strong academic success by building character and emotional well-being. KHIC is a collaborative effort with many of our region’s top organizations in early childhood education. Experts in nutrition, after school programs, bullying, proper immunization and other areas of concern are on hand at the event to answer questions for parents and provide age-appropriate activities for the children to enjoy and preserve. This year’s children will take home “Class of 2024″ t-shirts and kindergarten story books, and make crafts for their first memories of school.
For more information, visit the event website.

Women for a Healthy Environment

Announcing a local event that is taking place along the North Shore of Pittsburgh, PA on August 10th, 2011. Women for a Healthy Environment is working with regional organizations and states across the country to participate in a National Day of Action on August 10th.
Parents and kids across the country will come together for a national day of action to ask our senators to support a policy that protects us from chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, asthma, & other serious illnesses.
We shouldn't have to worry about toxic chemicals in our homes, drinking water and environment. Join parents across the country in this fun event.
Bring your children's favorite toys! We'll have an XRF analyzer gun on hand to scan the metal content of children's toys, jewelry and electronics. We'll also be providing super hero capes for young children to wear so they can ask their Senators to be heroes for safe chemicals!
Please join us at 12:00 pm (noon) on August 10th at:
Mr. Rogers Statue located across from Heinz Field on Allegheny Avenue. From here we will walk along the North Shore to the fountains behind Hyde Park restaurant.
Strollers welcomed and encouraged!
Parents, grandparents and caregivers will have the opportunity to hear from local experts, participate in a letter writing campaign to Senator Casey, and have their children's products scanned, so you can learn what toxins might lurk in your toy chest.
Please contact us at 412-420-2290 or michelle@womenforahealthyenvironment.org to reserve a parking space!
Can't join us? Please take two minutes to call Senator Casey's office and ask him to be our hero and support the Safe Chemicals Act of 2011. He can be reached at the following numbers: Phone: (202) 224-6324, Toll Free: (866) 802-2833, Fax: (202) 228-0604.
Sincerely,
Michelle Naccarati-Chapkis
Executive Director
P.S. Please consider making a financial contribution to WHE to help us advocate for policy solutions that better protect our health.

Be a Superhero Campaign

Is There a Superhero in Your Life?

They may not leap tall buildings in a single bound or catch the bad guys, but there are superheroes amongst us - everyday, walk-around kinds of superheroes who inspire possibility, exploration and joy in the people in their lives.

If you know a dad or granddad who is a superhero to the children in his life, help his "virtue" reach even further this Father's Day with a donation in his name to the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh's Be a Superhero Campaign. The Museum created this campaign three years ago to ensure that economically disadvantaged children and families can visit the Museum and enjoy experiences that spark creativity, curiosity and a love of learning. A gift of $10 supports one child’s admission, while $100 supports admission for 10 children - so everyone can be a superhero to a child in need.

To honor the amazing fathers in your life with a gift to the Be a Superhero Campaign, just click here to donate or call (412) 322-5058, x241.

P.S. Since even superheroes have to eat, you might consider giving the dad in your life a very special dinner at Casbah restaurant on June 23! Learn more here.
