Kidapalooza Family Festival

Get ready to have a blast!
The 10th Kidapalooza Family Festival is this
Saturday, February 27th, from 10am-6pm
at the David L Lawrence Convention Center.
Kids under 3 are free, admission for children 3-11 is $6, and children older than 12 and adults are $9. That’s already a great price for the amount of fun and entertainment you’re in store for, but here’s an added bonus. If you purchase a few specific dairy products from Giant Eagle this week, you can score a free adult or child ticket…and once you’re in the door almost every thing in there is free! Even better? All the included dairy products are currently on sale! Check this page of the site for more details on free tickets.
Stage shows through out the day will feature Yo Gabba Gabba’s Brobee, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, the Easter Bunny and Moishe from Where the Wild Things Are. Performances are scheduled to occur at approximately 11:00am, 1:00pm, 3:00pm and 5:00pm. (Times are subject to change and we will certainly update if we hear anything.) After the performances, you can also head to the Cartoon Tent to meet the characters! Feel free to bring your own camera or have the Picture People take your photo for free. (You will need to go into their store to pick them up at a later date.)
In addition to lots of food sampling, healthy eating tips & kids nutrition info, there will also be loads of indoor activities such as:-
Rides (inflatable slide & moon bounce, plus a carousel, train & more)-
Sports zone, Science dome, crafts-
Safety corral with a firetruck for the kids to sit on-
&
Princess Pavilion makeovers

Playdate @ the Toy Lending Library

[Trying again for] this week's playdate!
Wednesday, February 17th, 11:30-12:30 (or whenever!)
at the Pittsburgh Toy Lending Library.
This is an amazing toy city with something to do for every age from small infant to 5 years old!

It is located at the rear side of the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Centre/Liberty in Shadyside.
5401 Centre Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15232-1621
(412) 682-4430
Parking is a little tricky - their driveway is across the street from Panera and faces the Wendy's.
There is also parking in the front of the church facing S. Aiken Street.

Your first ever visit to the Toy Library is free!
Children under age 1 are always free.
The per-visit fee for non-members is $5 per child, with a maximum of $10 per family.
Adults are free. Children must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

There are also high chairs and tables for eating lunch if you need to while you are there. (I personally will probably go early and feed my little guy there first).

For more information, check out their website here.
Hope to see you there!

Free Children's Book!

You can score a FREE book from Powell’s Books! Just go on over here and add any book priced at $1 or under to your cart. Start the checkout process and on the payment page enter coupon code WELU2 –which will take an additional $5 off your order (covering the cost of shipping)! Then at the bottom of the page, click “Save and Continue” and then click on the “Place Order” button. That’s it, and now you’ve scored yourself a FREE book!
I could only find books for $.49 or $2 or more, so it's probably easiest to choose a $.49 one, but good luck - hope you find something! I picked up a copy of Dr. Doolittle!

Valentine's Fun

As moms, it's very easy to be consumed in the spit-up, the diapers, the feedings, and trying to keep everything in our homes from feeling upside-down. :) This week let's make a special effort to honor & cherish the men in our lives who work hard to provide for us, care for us, and really, just want a smile & a hug from us sometimes!!
LivingPittsburgh.Com offers a Valentine's Plan right in our near-by Lawrenceville:
[Disclaimer: MOST of us will probably not be able to have an ENTIRE day away from the kiddos, but hopefully we will find a way to do something!]
Lawrenceville can be an incredible Valentine’s Day destination for those who love off-the-beaten-path dates!
We recommend you start off the day with a late morning Sunday brunch at Coca Cafe. Enjoy unique omelet selections like smoked salmon ($7.75), sun-dried tomato pesto ($7.25), or Four Cheese with Ham ($7.75), all served with grilled potatoes and fruit. Add a croissant for $1.25 if you’d like.
After brunch it’s time for some good ol’ fashioned BOWLING! Arsenal Bowling Lanes offers 50 cent Sundays from 1:00-4:00pm. For a $6 admission price, you get 50 cent shoe rental, games, soda and hot dogs!
After you’ve finished bowling to hearts content, it’s off for a hand-in-hand stroll down Butler Street for some window shopping. Stop in some of the great independent stores like Wild Card, where we’re pretty sure you’ll be able to score a very unique and affordable Valentine’s Day gift.
You’ll also want to hit Zombo Gallery, which features “hip lowbrow art” (as their website calls it), artwork that is rooted in 1950’s and 60’s pop culture and kitsch. Inside Zombo Gallery, you’ll also find some reasonably priced vintage men & women’s clothing, by Wear It Clothing Co.
The shops all begin to close around 5:00/6:00 on Sundays, which is perfect timing because now is when we send you off to your final destination spot
…Brillobox. Every Sunday Brillobox features a $5 starving artist vegetarian dinner at 6:00. Past meals have featured dishes like vegetarian lasagna and veggie stew. The evening also includes a special $3 craft brew and tunes off the juke box.
So there you have it…a little Lawrenceville lovin’ on the cheap. What a way to spend the day!
